New ChartData Manager 5.2

A major new version of the ChartData Manager for Windows has  been released.  In addition to many speed and reliability improvements, this new ChartData Manager can write to multiple USB flash drives or SD cards at the same time.  This is an incredible time-saver for pilots that need multiple card/sticks for several displays.

The Seattle Avionics ChartData Manager provides ChartData to about a dozen different apps and devices – certified, non-certified, portable devices, in-panel systems, you name it.  Dynon, Bendix-King, Aspen, GRT, and many, many more!

To get it, just fire up the ChartData Manager, hit Update Now, and the ChartData Manager should update itself.  The new version # is 5.2.2.0522.  You can see this at the lower left corner of the app.

If you don’t already have the ChartData Manager, you can download it directly from http://chartdata.seattleavionics.com/Apps/DataManagerSetup.exe

What’s New in Data Manager 5.2

+ Support for copying to multiple data cards or USB sticks simultaneously (not sequentially but simultaneously so saves a lot of time)
+ Single-click to toggle the status display between multiple USB sticks
+ Dynamically adapts to the data on each card or USB stick to copy only the changed files regardless of when the card or stick was last updated (previously, this only worked if the data on the card/stick was from the last cycle but would not work if it had earlier data)
+ Much faster validation of data on the PC
+ Less verbose logging in the Activity Monitor (no more “Will retry later” messages).  Verbose logging can be restored in Options.
+ New Support email link at the bottom of the app.  When clicked, it asks if you’d like to send the ChartData Manager log file to support for additional help.
+ The “Device” status sections note which drive letter the data is on.
+ Device status will always show “Unknown” if no data card or stick is in the PC
+ All-new first-time use system that asks which apps or devices you use and asks for your email and password. Also mentions that the first update will take longer than later ones.
+ Warns when downloading of Sectionals or IFR Low/High charts is enabled but no areas (states) are selected
+ References to “Flight Guide Diagrams” replaced with “Seattle Avionics Airport Diagrams”
+ Updated to Help for new features
+ Improved handling for out of disk space errors
+ Other minor changes and fixes
+ FIXED: Copying Sectionals and IFR Low/High charts to a Dynon V13+ system fails if a Dynon key file is missing or corrupted
+ FIXED: Lost Password does not always work
+ FIXED: Changing your email or password does not always work

  1. Our pleasure, Howard. It was a common request, esp. from Dynon users. And the developer said it was fun to re-architect the code to handle copying to both at the same time (it’s tricky code to get right).

BTW — I suspect (hope) you meant “big” rather than “bit?”

    Thanks, Steve

  2. […] Also, read this terrific post from Keith R if you use our ChartData Manager application for Windows to update your data.  It explains how to automatically download data and even copy data to a card or USB memory stick without any clicks!  No need to sit there and wait for data to download or copy.  And keep in mind that we made the ChartData Manager faster and more reliable a few days ago with the release of ChartData Manager 5.2. 3. Steve,

Apple just updated to IOS 9.3.1. and automatically downloaded it to my iPhone. Should I hold off installing it or have you checked it out and found that it didn’t screw anything up.

    • Hi Bill,
Honestly I don’t know if we’ve tested it yet (I’m at Sun ‘n Fun now). I did personally download it to my iPhone and iPad and all seems well but that’s not formal testing.

It’s just a minor bug-fix release so PROBABLY safe but if you depend on your iPad and FlyQ EFB, I might hold off for a few days.
