System Status: Radar and Satellite Restored

Earlier today the company that provides the radar and satellite overlays for FlyQ EFB and FlyQ Online had a system-wide problem (not just for FlyQ).  They have now corrected their problem and all weather layers are back online with all versions of FlyQ.

We’re sorry for this problem although we had no control over it.

Thanks, Steve

  1. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE ! WOULD THAT OUTAGE JUST AFFECTED THE AIRBORNE RECEPTION AND/OR THE ONLINE?

TAKE CARE. I REALLY ENJOY YOUR PRODUCT.

IS A ADS-B TRANSPONDER/GPS IN THE WORKS FOR SEATTLE AVIONICS. I WANT TO KNOW SO I CAN HOLD OFF BUYING UNTIL YOURS IS READY. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT.
I SAW THAT STRATUS PUT ONE ON THE MARKET.

    THANKS,
    BUD

    • Hi Robert. Thanks for the kind words. No, the outage was brief and only affected Internet weather as ADS-B weather is provided by 700+ ground stations set up by the FAA that use a different data source.

Re: ADS-B … we support 20+ different devices from many manufactures but do not plan to make one ourselves. I would not suggest a Stratus system because it’s pretty much hooked to ForeFlight (ForeFlight is a partner in the LLC that sells it). Take a look at the FlyQ EFB section of our Web site (https://www.seattleavionics.com/FlyQEFB.aspx) and click the link about supported ADS-B systems.

      Thanks, Steve

    • Hi Tom, not now and while it’s on the list of things to add, it’s somewhere below allowing users to turn the screen into a series of pink polka dots 😉 Ok, maybe a little higher. The point is that we had XM almost done for V1 of the product but paused it to save time. We also didn’t have ADS-B in the first release. We got about a zillion requests for ADS-B and about 2 for XM so never finished the XM support. In the past 3 years, we might average 2 requests for XM per year. The simple fact is that free (tax supported) ADS-B weather isn’t nearly as good as XM but free is really, really, really hard to beat. Sorry.

  2. Steve, I am looking at adding a ADS-B out to my plane to comply with the 2020 mandate and was looking at Garmin gear since I already have a 430 in the plane. Most of what I am reading is that their gear like the GDL84 Datalink works with the Garmin Pilot on to the IPad. And their other gear like the GTX 345 says it works with Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight. Is there any plans to interface with Garmin gear with FlyQ or are we just out of luck?

    • I can’t really comment on Garmin but I would mention that we work w/ a lot of ADS-B Out systems like those from FreeFlight Systems and NavWorx. They both offer WiFi connections so work great with FlyQ EFB.
