FlyQ EFB 3.0.1 Released

Yesterday, Apple approved FlyQ EFB version 3.0.1, our first release after the major v 3.0 release.  It’s available for download right now.  It fixes several mostly minor bugs with the most important being a crash that occurred when connecting FlyQ to a Dynon SkyView system via WiFi.  It also improves some aspects of the Flight Data Recorder.  See below for more details.

To upgrade from an existing iPad or iPhone installation:

Go to the App Store icon on your iPad or iPhone and select the Updates tab.  Click the Update button next to FlyQ EFB.  Note:  If your device is set to automatically update apps, you may see an Open button rather than Update because the new version has already been installed.

To download to a new iPad or iPhone (or if you didn’t install version 3.0 to your iPhone):

Go to the App Store icon on your iPhone or iPad, select the Search tab, enter FlyQ EFB.

Fixed and Improvements

  • FIXED: Crash when connecting to Dynon SkyView and AFS systems.
  • FIXED: Some data fields missing when connected to Avidyne systems. Note: Temporarily also removed ADS-B and flight plan processing for Avidyne systems. Will be restored soon.
  • ADDED: Flight Data Recorder now synchronized between all your devices.
  • FIXED: The Data Recorder broke flights into multiple segments if the app is paused or backgrounded during the flight.
  • FIXED: Incorrect regional radar images for some parts of the Southern Mississippi valley.
  • FIXED: In some cases, the ChartData Manager may show percent complete greater than 100%.
  • FIXED: Wind arrows on airport diagrams and satellite images may be sized incorrectly or show an arrow in some cases of no-winds.
  • FIXED: Problems / incorrect information message when adding some SIDs and STARs.
  • FIXED: iPhone only: Airport quick access buttons (Direct To, Plates, Map, etc.) inoperative in Favorites and Recent.
  • FIXED: iPhone only: Creating a 30 day trial can be difficult depending on the screen size of the device.
  • CHANGED: iPhone only: METAR/TAF switch for Raw/Translated in the wrong place.
  • CHANGED: Flight Recorder titles should be larger and bold.

  1. On the flight from Az to NM Sunday, the Merlin was not detected by my iPad.
Is the Merlin a Seattle Avionics product?

I recycled my iPad, and the lights were on the Merlin. It worked the day before on the way over.

  2. When will ADS-B and flight plan processing for Avidyne systems be restored?
I just installed a IFD550 and would like to continue testing this feature since Avidyne’s own IFD100 app will not send flight plans to the base unit without matching Databases.

    • Hopefully very soon — one or two weeks, hopefully. There are some issues w/ the IFD Trainer vs. the real device and we need the Trainer to work exactly as the real device to do our development. We didn’t expect any problems with ADS-B (since it worked before their new firmware release) but couldn’t test w/ the Trainer due to a bug in it. When Avidyne tested there on a real device, they got a crash but we can’t debug it until we get a trainer from them w/ working ADS-B data feeds. Avidyne has been great to work with but it takes a little time. Similar but not identical issue w/ Flight Plans.

      • Thanks Steve for the update.
Let me know if I can help with testing.
I can test via the PC simulator, IFD Trainer, IFD100, and of course the actual IFD550.
My last IFR flight to Mexico had a lot of WPs in it.
        I just removed my GNS530.
When I used it last, it took me forever to hand fill the waypoints in.
FLYQ sent it to the IFD550 in less than 10 seconds!

  3. Steve,

this is the second update that does not show up in my iPad Mini Apps Store/Updates tab. There is the last FlyQ online update there. I had to contact your tech dept for help with that update. Any thoughts?

    • Hi Bob, We have absolutely not control over Apple. The app was released on Thursday so should definitely show up — unless you already have it. If your iPad is set to automatically update apps, it would have already downloaded it. In FlyQ EFB, click the “gear” (Settings) button and look at the top right corner. Does it say 3.0 (or 3.0.0) or 3.0.1? 3.0.1 is the current version. If not, I’d reboot my iPad. If this still doesn’t work, I’d contact support again or, if you got an email from them that helped, re-read the email. Sorry I can’t help more as it should be working fine. Also, not sure what you mean about FlyQ Online as it’s not an iPad app so has nothing to do w/ the App Store — it’s just a web site.
