September 12, 2019 ChartData Released

FlyQ EFB 4.0 has just been released with incredible post-flight features including a Visual LogbookVisual Playback (2D and 3D) and Analysis Graphs, the Floq network to connect with your fellow pilots, and great new CFI/Student features.  Learn more, read what the press says about it, download a free 30 day trial now, or watch some of the more than 80 videos we have on YouTube.

The next FAA data cycle begins this Thursday, September 12, 2019 and the new ChartData is available for download now.  We try to release ChartData the Friday before the new cycle starts but had some additional testing to complete this cycle, forcing a delay until today.  New data is available for the US, Mexico, and Central America. European data will be ready shortly  Be sure not to fly with this data until September 12.

If you’re using another data provider, check with them about availability.

Important notes for FlyQ EFB user:  Please do not download this new data if you plan to fly before Thursday as the app does not currently have any concept of “current” versus “next” data cycle.  However, FlyQ EFB downloads TFRs, fuel prices, and weather automatically so rest assured that this data will always be current even without doing a manual update

Also, read this terrific post from Keith R if you use our ChartData Managerapplication for Windows to update your data.  It explains how to automatically download data and even copy data to a card or USB memory stick without any clicks!  No need to sit and wait for data to download or copy.

  • In FlyQ EFB:  Tap the ChartData Manager icon (the “down arrow” icon), review which states you have selected, then tap Update Now.
  • In FlyQ InSight or FlyQ Pocket: Select the Downloads tab on the bottom of the screen and tap Update Now.
  • In FlyQ Online:  Nothing to download.  Just go to https://flyq.seattleavionics.com and the new data is automatically used when the new cycle begins on Thursday (but not before).
  • For apps and devices that use our Data Manager, run the ChartData Manager (or select Settings from the little icon at the lower right corner of your Windows screen) and tap Update Now.
  • In Voyager, select Update Data from the Tools menu then choose the All Monthly ChartData item.

If you need to renew your subscription, click the appropriate link below:

Note that FlyQ Online (our Web-based flight planner) ChartData is enabled automatically on the day the new cycle begins (Thursday) so what you see is always the current, legal data.  Unlike data for our apps and devices, we do not release FlyQ Online ChartData ahead of time since there is nothing to download.

  1. The GRT Sectional files appear to be broken and I cannot get a response from support. Are you aware of this problem? Any estimate of when it will be fixed?

  2. Hi Steve,

We’re very sorry for the problem. Some of the Sectional files used by AFS and GRT appear to have been corrupted. We have uploaded and tested the fixed files.

Here’s how to correct the problem:

    1. Open the ChartData Manager
    2. Click “Options”
    3. Click “Advanced”
    4. Click “Open the download folder on this PC”
    5. Now, you can either delete the whole “ScannedCharts” directory (this will also delete the LO and HI charts) OR, if you want to be more selective and just delete the Sectionals…
    A. Open the “ScannedCharts” directory
    B. Delete any files you see there. They’ll begin with “ScannedCharts”. Do NOT delete the “US” directory
    C. Go into the “US” directory
    D. Delete the “SEC” directory
    6. Back on the ChartData Manager, click “Close”
    7. Click “OK”
    8. Click “Update Now”

Please let us know if this works for you or not.

Again, we’re sorry for the problem.

    Thanks,
    Steve
