The next FAA data cycle begins next Thursday, May 16, 2024. The new data can be downloaded now for the US, Mexico, and Central America.  European data will be available shortly. Be sure not to fly with this data until the next cycle starts.

If you’re using another data provider, check with them about availability.

Important notes for FlyQ EFB user:  Please do not download this new data if you plan to fly before next Thursday as the app does not currently have any concept of “current” versus “next” data cycle.  However, FlyQ EFB downloads TFRs, fuel prices, and weather automatically so rest assured that this data will always be current even without doing a manual update

Also, read this terrific post if you use our ChartData Manager application for Windows to update your data.  It explains how to automatically download data and even copy data to a card or USB memory stick without any clicks!  No need to sit and wait for data to download or copy.

FlyQ EFB 6.9.1 Release

FlyQ EFB 6.9.1 has been released to address a bug in how Track, MCrs, and some other values are calculated in version 6.9.0. This release contains no other changes. We strongly suggest that all users install this new version.

How to Upgrade

If you already have FlyQ EFB on your iPad/iPhone:

  1. Go to the App Store on your device.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen, tap your picture (probably with a red number).
  3. Find Available Updates or Upcoming Automatic in the Updates section.
  4. Find FlyQ EFB.
  5. If you see Open, it’s already downloaded. Tap Open to fire it up.
  6. If you see Update, tap to download, then tap Open when it appears.

If it’s not on your iPad or iPhone:

    Otherwise…

FlyQ EFB 6.9.0 Release

FlyQ EFB 6.9, like FlyQ EFB 6.8 released a few weeks ago, is mostly about fixing many long-standing bugs in FlyQ. New FlyQ EFB 6.9, just released, addresses more than 20 of these issues.

Here’s what’s we fixed in this release:

  • FIXED: Various map-related crashes
  • FIXED: Crash when selecting Direct To to a waypoint
  • FIXED: Crash on flight plan loading with some airports (e.g. KGDK)
  • FIXED: Crash when manually adding multiple entries to the Flights tab with +
  • FIXED: Changes made to Flight details are not saved
  • FIXED: The ADS-B distance ring does not move in some cases
  • FIXED: ADS-B lightning does not appear in some cases
  • FIXED: Icing incorrectly changes view when zoom level is changed
  • FIXED: FlyQ freezes on the Airport Diagram page after landing
  • FIXED: After adding a web-based documents to Documents, the download never completes
  • FIXED: Dynon flight plan transfer does not work
  • FIXED: Deleting multiple flight plans at the same time fails
  • FIXED: Various text and data entry fields are invisible or hard to read if Dark Mode is used
  • FIXED: Graphs and Reports disappear from the Flights tab if another tab is selected
  • FIXED: The Sort feature in the Airports tab does not sort properly for Fuel or Weather
  • FIXED: The Weather/Nearby and Airports/Weather tabs sometimes show overlapping text in the METAR and TAF areas
  • FIXED: Changing the ETD for a Flight Plan often changes the selected aircraft
  • FIXED: The Fights Merge function is very hard to discover (add a Merge icon)
  • FIXED: Landing airport incorrectly pops up when changing the simulator
  • FIXED: NavLog page doesn’t use space efficiently
  • FIXED: After multiple flights are merged into one, the merged flight is not editable
  • FIXED: The My Flights / Logbook tab does not display correctly when selected on an iPhone.
  • POSSIBLE FIX: Flights tracks are sometimes not saved

FlyQ EFB 6.8.0 Release

For the past few months, we’ve been concentrating on fixing many long-standing bugs in FlyQ. New FlyQ EFB 6.8, just released, addresses about 20 of these issues and the next release will fix more.

FlyQ 6.8 also adds a new feature that lets you set the opacity of the METAR/TAF circles with the Brightness and Opacity button at the top of the screen (iPad) or in Settings (iPhone).

Here’s what’s we fixed in this release:

  • FIXED: App effectively locks-up when an airport diagram pops up if Lock is on
  • FIXED: Wind barb/arrow opacity does not change when adjusted in Settings
  • FIXED: Multiple cases of the mapping engine crashing
  • FIXED: Column titles on the Plans tab sometimes hard to read
  • FIXED: App crash in certain cases when changing a flight plan via rubber-band
  • FIXED: Occasional crash when switching from split to single screen mode
  • FIXED: Crash with iOS 17 when rendering some graphic images
  • FIXED: Occasional crash when turning the Digital map layer off
  • FIXED: Aircraft selection sometimes changes when takeoff time changed
  • FIXED: Winds On/Off toggle invisible when iOS Light mode is on
  • FIXED: Crash when tapping a METAR or TAF text to see it larger after viewing multiple METARs or TAFs
  • FIXED: Text on certain weather graphic images is not aligned correctly
  • FIXED: FlyQ Online (web) Profile view no longer works
  • FIXED: Some small airports are missing fuel prices.
  • FIXED: Freezing Level and Satellite images are out-of-date or missing in the Weather Gallery.
  • FIXED: Delete of multiple flight plans from the Plans tab does not work.
  • FIXED: The Analysis tab in Flights is blank.
  • FIXED: The Detailed Logbook report from the Flights tab sums page totals incorrectly.
  • FIXED: Graphs created in the Reports section do not appear.

Cycle 2401 ChartData Problem Resolved

The ChartData problem mentioned in a previous blog post has been resolved; downloads for cycle 2401 have been re-enabled. Please keep in mind that this data is not effective until this Thursday (1/25/24) so please do not download cycle 2401 if you plan to fly today or tomorrow.

If you downloaded cycle 2401 prior to today, you will need to follow the directions in the previous blog entry to remove the incomplete 2401 ChartData before you can download the revised ChartData.

Problem with Cycle 2401 ChartData

UPDATE: RESOLVED Jan 23, 2024, 2:30 PM Pacific: The geo-ref problem has been resolved and downloads for cycle 2401 have been re-enabled. However, if you downloaded 2401 prior to today, you will need to follow the directions below to ensure correct data. We apologize for any disruption this might cause.

We’ve discovered a problem with the cycle 2401 ChartData that becomes effective this Thursday (January 25). Specifically, while the plates and airport diagrams are properly available, the geo-reference data is missing so you cannot see your position on the plate or diagram and cannot overlay a plate onto the map. We are working diligently to fix the issue and expect the fix to be available before the cycle begins.

Downloads for cycle 2401 have been disabled while we address the problem. If you have already downloaded cycle 2401, please use the following procedure to revert to the currently valid 2313 data cycle:

FlyQ EFB: Uninstall the app from your iPad or iPhone, reinstall from the App Store, and download data again in the normal way. The app will automatically download your aircraft and pilot profiles, flight plans, etc., just like it would if you were to get a new iPad.

Dynon, AFS, Aspen, AeroVue, AV8OR and other systems using the ChartData Manager: Open the Chart Data Manager and select your device. Click Options then Advanced. Click Delete all data downloaded to this PC. Click Delete all data on the memory card/stick. When done, click Close then OK. When back at the main screen, download the 2313 data by clicking Download Now. If you happen to use more than one type of data (e.g. Aspen and Dynon), you’ll need to select each type of data, go back to the Advanced screen, then click the Delete all data on the memory card/stick for each data type and region. Do NOT click Delete all data downloaded to this PC for each data type as it deletes all data from all data types.
